We are in Bushmills Co Antrim.
Bushmills lies 6 miles east and slightly south from Portrush.
Generally speaking if you are travelling from Belfast you will pass through the town to get on to the north coast.
We were dandering around Bushmills the other day when we stumbled upon this intriguing Ross Wilson Alphabet Angel sculpture positioned near the town's, main car park.

The Alphabet Angel was created in 2004.
This fascianting and unusual bronze sculpture was inspired by Ulster Scots poet James Fenton
( 1931-2021 ). We hear from Ross that this sculpture is a marker to the Ulster-Scots tongue. The various parts of the sculpture eg the hearts, the goggles, the backpack, all hold hidden meanings.

-The 'angel' carries a backpack of hearts and contains forgotten words, phrases and meanings. This symbolizes, ‘the redemption of language and the reality of dreams’ which are carried forward between the two hearts of Ulster-Scots.
-The first heart represents the land and the soul of the place
-The second heart represents the heart of the people and the spirit of the language.
-The flying goggles represent the protection of sight and ‘vision' ‘through the alphabet journey of dialect.
-A belt pouch, apparently contains the renewed contemporary currency of an ancient spoken tongue.
-The thistle icon stands for affinity and shared culture and traditions of Scotland and Ulster.
-The capital A represents alpha.
-The trumpet calls for Ulster Scots with its unique sound and rhythm, to be recognized.

Ross Wilson's ‘Alphabet Angel’ is a project taken on by the local community in Bushmills, funded by the Housing Executive and the Lottery Fund amongst others.
