Albert Einstein (1879–1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist renowned for developing the theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics alongside quantum mechanics. Born on March 14, 1879, in Ulm, Germany, Einstein exhibited an early curiosity about science and mathematics. Despite struggling in traditional schooling, he excelled in self-study and went on to earn a degree from the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zurich.

Einstein's early career was marked by his work at the Swiss Patent Office, where he had ample time to develop his theories. In 1905, he published four groundbreaking papers in the Annalen der Physik, one of which introduced his famous equation, E=mc², establishing the equivalence of mass and energy. This period of innovation is known as his "Annus Mirabilis" (Miracle Year).

His most famous contribution, the theory of relativity, fundamentally changed our understanding of space, time, and gravity. In 1915, Einstein published the general theory of relativity, which proposed that gravity is the warping of spacetime by mass and energy. This theory was confirmed in 1919 when British astronomer Arthur Eddington observed a solar eclipse, proving Einstein's predictions about the bending of light.

Einstein's contributions to science earned him the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for his explanation of the photoelectric effect, a crucial step in the development of quantum theory. Beyond his scientific work, Einstein was a passionate advocate for peace, civil rights, and social justice. He fled Nazi Germany in 1933, eventually settling in the United States, where he continued his work and advocacy until his death on April 18, 1955.

Albert Einstein’s legacy remains profound, not only for his revolutionary scientific contributions but also for his influence on philosophy, politics, and global scientific thought.
