The new Ferrari 296 Challenge is the 7th generation “Challenge” racecar from Maranello – and it’s the most track focused yet. The 296 GTB has been turned into a pure racecar!

I spent a day with the 296 Challenge as PSC Motorsport gave their new arrival (the first time this new model been seen in South East Asia) a shakedown at Bira Circuit ahead of its debut this coming week at the Bangsaen Grand Prix.

Based on the road-going 296 GTB, this race car has been stripped down and rebuilt purely for the track, featuring lightweight construction, advanced aerodynamics, and a screaming V6 twin-turbo engine that delivers uncompromising speed.

It’s the first of the “Challenge” breed to feature a V6 engine – and most significantly compared to the road going 296 GTB all the hybrid technology, the MGU-K, high voltage battery, etc, has been stripped away to create a hardcore and fun old school racer which weighs in at 140 kg lighter than it’s production sister. It’s the road car Ferrari should have built.

Debuting in 2024, the 296 Challenge was designed to push drivers to their limits on circuits around the world.

With aggressive bodywork, race-spec suspension, and carbon brakes, it’s engineered for precision handling and raw lap-time performance.

On track, the sound alone is enough to turn heads, while the car itself shows just how far Ferrari is willing to push its racing DNA.

The arrival of the 296 Challenge marks a new era for Ferrari’s customer racing program, blending cutting-edge technology with the visceral thrill of motorsport.

Whether storming down the pitlane or attacking corners at full throttle, this car is a statement: Ferrari’s racing spirit is alive and louder than ever.
