In this video I go over a (hopefully) easy to replicate script for having your ship automatically approach any asteroid you point your range finder at. I will pin the script in the comments for anyone looking to copy paste! If your ship is not slowing down fast enough, you can change the last two "T" values on the second line to limit max thrust. Every ship is going to be a little different.
