Megan Kiely Mueller, Ph.D, A08, AG10, AG13, specializes in assessing the role of human-animal interaction in impacting mental health and well-being of both humans and animals. Her research focuses on how relationships with animals can promote healthy children, families, and communities through pet ownership, animal-assisted therapy, and animal-based community programs. Professor Mueller’s ongoing projects involve humananimal interaction in military families, the integration of animals into science and engineering education, and the effects of equine and canineassisted therapy in promoting mental health. Her work on the psychological benefits of human-animal interaction has been published in numerous scientific journals and featured in popular media outlets, such as Scientific American, ABC News Radio, and The Huffington Post. She also appeared in a recent documentary about a prison rescue dog program, Dogs on the Inside. Professor Mueller is a research assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University and works in the Center for Animals and Public Policy and as the associate director of the Tufts Institute for Human-Animal Interaction. She also teaches in the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Development, and is a faculty affiliate of the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service. Professor Mueller received her B.A. in psychology and M.A. and Ph.D. in child development from Tufts University.
