Travis Bartnick has been working for the Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC) for over seven years. He started as an ecologist in GLIFWC’s newly developed climate change program in 2015 and transitioned to a wildlife biologist position in late 2016. Over that time, he has focused on a range of natural resources-related topics, including assisting with the development of a long-term phenology study and climate change vulnerability assessment, coordinating GLIFWC’s invasive species program, and working on many different issues related to the co-management of deer and elk. Travis will describe the cross-cultural experience and lessons learned while working for an intertribal agency and how assisting GLIFWC-member tribes with the implementation of off-reservation treaty rights has been a challenging and rewarding experience.
