Susan Peters and Elliott Reid play siblings who are horrified to discover that their novelist mother (Mary Astor) plan to marry school professor Herbert Marshall, so plot to split them up by telling him that their mother's salacious novels are from her own personal experiences. However, come the end of the film the truth is revealed in court and true justice is done when both Marshall and Astor admonish her children with a good old fashioned spanking - with Astor getting the job of spanking Susan!

While Elliott Reid would go on to live to the age of 93, Susan Peters had a much more tragic and shorter life. She shot to fame for her role in Random Harvest just a year before Young Ideas in 1942 and earned a Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. But in 1945 she was shot during a hunting accident and ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Although she was cast in The Sign of the Ram in 1948 in her wheelchair, the film was a flop and she struggled to get work after that. She eventually died in 1952 of anorexia at the tragically young age of 31. Such a sad end for one of the loveliest looking actresses ever to of appeared on screen.
