I started off by asking the question; Does the regular lead weights scare the fish away after throwing your net?
After pondering this question for many days, I decided to find out if the color of the lead weights matter & I decided to paint the weights blue! This video proves that adding color to the lead weights can have a serious impact on your fishing & lead you to catching more fish!
I made a 12.5 foot cast net to test this theory out with & it threw pretty good. I will definitely have to work on the lead line and tune the net perfectly so it throws better in the future. This net caught lots of fish today! It started out with a bang, capturing 2 large alligator gar. Shortly afterwards, I hunted down a group of tilapia lurking just below the surface of the water. I could actually see them attempting to escape & I threw the net directly on top of them! These fish will make a delicious meal for the family. Following this net, I was able to capture a very nice catfish (which I released since I already had a cooler full of tilapia from the last cast). We finished the video with a great throw near the shore capturing 2 bass, a crappie and an assortment of other fish.
Overall a fantastic example of a net fishing trip on a beautiful Florida lake. The fishermen I met along the way gave me tips on where to go & what fish I might catch there, as well as a warning about big alligators lurking around this channel and waterway.
