Fortified with BulletShield and featuring an innovative installer, the ultra thin Tech21 Impact Shield focuses on providing impact protection while staying reasonably scratch and smear free. As it is plastic, it doesn't have the astonishing scratch and smear resistance of a good tempered glass screen protector, but it should provide much more in the way of impact protection. Plus, the flexibility of a plastic film allows it to adhere well to the curved sides of the Galaxy S8's screen in a way that is difficult for glass to match.

Installation is rather complicated, with a many step process and four separate layers to be removed. However, Tech21 provides a plastic installer, which acts as a positioning guide to help you get the screen protector on straight. Additionally, there is quite a nice squeegee that does dual duty as a screen cleaner pre-installation and as a bubble remover during installation. Overall, the process works well and I don't think such an extremely thin screen protector would be able to be successfully installed without the four layer system. However, at least in my case, the installation needed around 24 hours to cure properly. Directly after installation, there were a huge number of bubbles all over the screen and I was unable to smooth them out. I thought it was a failure...but after waiting for a day, suddenly they had nearly all disappeared. There were still a very few bubbles left, a couple on the sides, but all the rest were gone. So, definitely give this screen protector time to set after installation! One thing to be aware of is that the adhesive used is low tac, so it is pretty easy to lift up the corners of the Impact Shield if you try. If you are using a case, this is less of an issue, but naked phone users might have an issue with this when sliding the Impact Shield protected phone in and out of pockets.

Overall, I am pleased with the results. The Impact Shield provides edge to edge protection and it is so thin that it is barely visible on the phone. As I said before, it isn't quite as good as a tempered glass screen protector in terms of smear and scratch resistance (an issue it shares with all plastic screen protectors), but it has a scratch resistant top layer which should make it better than most plastic screen protectors in that regard, and its BulletShield layer should give it good impact resistance.
