This was the second pilot film for the HOTSPOT series, which I filmed in 2003. The Galápagos Islands are not exactly one of the diversity hotspots of the world, but world famous for their spectacular bird colonies and as a hothouse of evolution. Thus, it would certainly count as one of the most precious places on earth, worth protecting and matching the idea of the HOTSPOT series. The film deals with the work of Heike Jaeger, a German botanist fighting the battle against introduced plants, which threaten the future of the ecosystem. This sequence gives a brief introduction into the natural setting of this unique environment.
