In this video, we'll cover the playing field, player positions, and game rules. We'll start by discussing the soccer pitch or field, which is a green rectangle with a dividing line called the midfield. At each end of the field, there are rectangular areas with goalposts called "goals". Players try to score by kicking the ball over the opponent's goal line. Next, we'll talk about player positions. There are 11 players on each team, including the goalkeeper or "shot-stopper", whose job is to protect the goal. There are also defenders, midfielders, and attackers, each with their own specific roles. During the game, there are rules to follow. For example, it is not allowed to touch the ball with the hands, unless you are the goalkeeper inside the penalty area. We'll also discuss common terms used during soccer, such as "foul", which is when a player breaks a rule and is punished with a free kick. "Offside" is when a player is in a position of advantage over the opponents when the ball is passed. Fouls result in a free kick. A free kick is awarded to the opposing team in case of a foul outside the penalty area. A penalty kick, on the other hand, is a free kick from the penalty spot located 11 meters from the goal, and is awarded to the opposing team in case of a foul inside the penalty area.
