Hybrid Meetup: Predictive Modelling with Monte Carlo Simulations in Excel

A Monte Carlo simulation is a numerical method that uses random draws to perform calculations and complex problems. Contrary to what many people think, you don't need programming knowledge or a fancy software to start using the power of Monte Carlo Simulations in your Excel models. David discusses Monte Carlo analysis in Excel by first introducing stochastic modelling concepts, showing examples and techniques, and discussing how (and when) to use VBA to run Monte Carlo simulations. He will explain how to perform monte carlo simulations using a simple spreadsheet in Excel. We will go over how to do over 1,000 predictions and how to use predictive modelling to forecast the future.

David Brown is an Associate Professor of Finance in the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona. David's research has been published in the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Financial Economics and the Review of Finance and was recognized with the 2018 TIAA Paul A. Samuelson Award for Outstanding Scholarly Writing on Lifelong Financial Security. His research has also been featured by the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Forbes, Consumer Reports, Money Digest and ValueWalk. David teaches financial modeling at the graduate and undergraduate levels, was a finalist in the 2016 ModelOff Financial Modeling World Championships, and was featured as an Excel Esports All-Star on ESPN2. He was the founder of the Microsoft Excel Collegiate Challenge and The Financial Modeling University Championships.
