This image shows Pismis 24, a young star cluster violently shaping its own environment.

Captured by the James Webb Space Telescope and released on September 4, 2025, this infrared view reveals massive dust and gas clouds being carved away by intense stellar winds and radiation from newly formed stars.

Located inside the Lobster Nebula (NGC 6357), about 5,500 light-years away in the constellation Scorpius, Pismis 24 is one of the most powerful stellar nurseries ever observed.

What looks like glowing “cliffs” are not solid at all — they are vast walls of cosmic dust eroding in real time.

Earlier Hubble observations once suggested this region hosted a single colossal “monster star,” but later studies revealed it to be a multiple-star system, rewriting what we know about massive star formation.
