Paddle Steamer Waverley - From Falmouth - Plymouth via Fowey

Friday 30th August presented the unmissable opportunity to travel on the last sea going paddle steamer, Waverley as she left Falmouth bound for Plymouth making a stop at Fowey for her first ever visit, and the first visit of a paddle steamer since the 1930's! From Fowey we sailed up the south coast past Rame head before making our way into Plymouth. We were lucky enough to stay on board for the evening cruise which celebrated 150 years of Cattewater harbour, where we sailed up the River Tamar, under the iconic Royal Albert Bridge and Tamar Road Bridge before turning and making our way out into the sound and cruising round the breakwater before heading back into the Barbican landing where she berthed for the night.

A bit about the PS Waverley.
PS Waverley is the last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world. Built in 1946, she sailed from Craigendoran on the Firth of Clyde to Arrochar on Loch Long until 1973. Bought by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society (PSPS), she has been restored to her 1947 appearance and now operates passenger excursions around the British coast.

Since 2003, Waverley has been listed in the National Historic Fleet by National Historic Ships UK as "a vessel of pre-eminent national importance".
