Manchester United's sporting director, Dan Ashworth, is planning a significant £200m transfer overhaul. With Ashworth now in his new role, United can accelerate their squad reshaping ahead of the new season. Erik ten Hag and his team return for pre-season training next week, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe acknowledging it will take "two or three summer windows" for substantial improvement at Old Trafford. This is the first transfer window under Ratcliffe's new football operations team, including Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox, and new CEO Omar Berrada.

Despite previous summer spending sprees, United's budget is now constrained to around £50m due to the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules (PSR). To enhance their budget, United must generate revenue through player sales. Ashworth and his team are focusing on outgoings, aiming to finalize these before the squad's US tour on July 24.

Three players have already departed—Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial, and Brandon Williams—without generating revenue as their contracts expired. United plans to sell more players to fund improvements, prioritizing centre-back, midfielder, and striker positions. Most of the squad is available for offers, except for Andre Onana, Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, and Amad Diallo. They might even consider significant offers for captain Bruno Fernandes, though he is expected to stay and sign a new deal.
