Please read the textbox first. This video is part of a series of 5 video’s where I tried to explain how to make a simple 1 transistor (radio) “mixer circuit” for shortwave, going from 2 MC up to 18 MC. When you "pop" into one of these video’s, watch them all from 1 to 5 & start by the first one to get the right overview, info, etc, links below.
This 1 transistor radio “mixer” circuit was not tested on higher than 18 MC. But a real VHF or UHF mixer usable on VHF and working via the same principles is here, with the TBA 120 Chip. Link is • Simple FM radio receiver for the 88-1...

Second video SW Radio Mixer • 1 transistor radio "mixer" circuit (=...
Third video SW Radio Mixer • 1 transistor radio "mixer" circuit (=...
Fourth video SW Radio mixer • 1 transistor radio "mixer" circuit (=...
5th video SW Radio mixer (FET used also for front end) • 1 trans. radio "mixer circuit" (freq....
This 1 transistor “mixer” can eventually, regarding the same principles, be made for higher frequencies with a (V) or (U) HF transistor, say a BF 199 or many better quality HF transistors, going to (say) into the 300-500 MC range when the principles are properly understood/worked out with suitable UVHF-UHF ransistors.
Try & test, I am always curious about your results, upload them to You Tube, everyone can learn from that.
These 5 videos will consume perhaps a quite long time to watch and surely I repeat myself many times. And (by the way) I have to do that…. When you find this video on You Tube or somewhere else on the www, go to the 5 originals on You Tube. Thus (advice) “dive” into all the 5 videos.
These 5 video’s show (in a kind of way) the structure about how I make (made or how to do that) simple & basic Shortwave radios (going from (say) 2 MC to max. 18 MC. The principles + the schematics showed in these 5 video are also usable for frequencies below 2 MC.
Remark on the final video (video 5) about the FET: it is better to solder the resistor of say 470 Ohm directly from the wiper of the 2K2/4K7 potentiometer to the Drain of the FET. This was also corrected/discussed in one of the 4 earlier videos in this row.
There are more than 1000 Video’s on my YT channel. I only do analog electronics: audio amplifiers, analog measuring devices, radio circuits, many Shortwave radios, many oscillators HF and audio, other audio & shortwave circuits. Also many (test) generators for all kinds of waveforms, both in the audio range and HF. Also simple “switch” circuits like the Schmitt triggers acting on different input voltages, 555 circuits and circuits of basic electronics issues like “Ohms law”, resistance properties, capacitance properties, the capacitors testing process, electronic “matching” in audio circuits and audio amplifiers, audio pre amplifiers, microphone amplifiers, etc. In all cases you find the schematic inserted in the video.
When you have questions about my circuits and how to make them: go to my Channel trailer (Radiofun232 on You Tube) and go to the “looking glass”. Type there the keywords that you want/need like: “power supply”, audio amplifier, capacitor tester, oscillator, radio, shortwave, shortwave radio, or any keyword you like to find the essential info & schematics on my YT channel.
You can contact me via email when you have questions about my published circuits. I always ask for a picture of what you have made + a problem description; I ask to communicate. When you don’t want to give information/communicate please don’t ask help. I am only “in” for serious reactions, sorry to say. A fault search without having seen the circuit and without serious communication is not possible and a serious help needs a lot of time from my side. Sorry that I am so strict now (since 15 may 2021). It has to do with disappointing reactions in the recent past of people that asked “help” (even fake help) and did not react afterwards or asked questions when they knew the answer.
My You Tube channel trailer is here: • Radiofun232 on YouTube. Updated month... When you search, search always “NEWEST FIRST” to get the right overview. You can also search via the “looking glass” on my Channel trailer via keywords like ”audio”, “radio”, “amplifier”, “filter”, “Shortwave”, “transistor”, “FET”, “oscillator”, “generator”, “switch”, “schmitt trigger” etc; so the electronic subject you are interested in. My books about electronics & analog radio technology are available via the website of "LULU”, search for author “Ko Tilman” there.

I keep all my YT videos constant actual, so the original video’s with the most recent information are always on YouTube. Search there, and avoid my circuits that are republished, re-arranged, re-edited on other websites, giving not probable re-wiring, etc. Some persons try to find gold via my circuits. I take distance from all these fake claims. I cannot help that these things happen. Upload 25 May 2021.
