This is a video about how a fun family cross country trip from Washington, DC to Minnesota to adopt a dog quickly turned serious when 48-year-old Eve Lenhart experienced stroke symptoms.

"I was dizzy and couldn't seem to focus," said Eve Lenhart."I thought my arm was just asleep."

"When you start having the definite neurologic signs of the speech deficits, of the vision, the balance doesn't work properly, the window is very brief -- three hours is what we like to have everyone in to come to the hospital and get therapy for," said Dr. Tony Carter, St. Luke's Emergency Room physician.


"I had what is called a transient ischemic attack," said Lenhart. "If something this traumatic is going to happen to me I cannot be more grateful for it to happen where it did."

"I'm very clear about what it takes to be a good citizen of the world and what it takes to have a little bit of Iowa, especially the people at St, Luke's in your heart -- that makes you a better person," said Stefi Wohnsihl, Eve Lenhart's mother.
