Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to arrive in North Korea later on June 18, in his first visit in 24 years, underlining the deepening ties between the two nuclear-armed states.
Putin last visited Pyongyang in July 2000, four months after he was first elected president. He met the country’s then-leader, Kim Jong Il, Kim’s father.
Putin's visit comes at a time of heightened tension on the Korean peninsula. Western analysts have been regularly warning of a major conflict.
