Today on the Monster Hobbies Model Car Garage we will be looking at The AMT 1960 Chevrolet Apache 10 Custom Fleetside Pickup Truck With Go Cart Kit.

The 1960 model year brought the arrival of the Chevrolet Apache C10 series trucks, succeeding the 1955-59 Chevy Task Force series trucks.

The 1960 Chevrolet Custom Fleetside Model Kit By AMT was originally introduced in 1998 and this currently re-released version comes with a Go-Cart.

This model kit is molded in white plastic and consists of over 130+ parts, including an amazing Chevrolet 235 Cubic Inch in-line six cylinder engine.

The engine of the AMT 1960 Chevrolet Apache 10 Custom Fleetside Pickup Truck consists of 22 highly detailed parts including the 2-piece air cleaner, carburetor, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, 2-piece engine block/automatic transmission combo, cylinder head, oil breather tube, fuel pump, distributor, fan belt, fan, generator, starter motor, timing chain cover, and coil. All these parts are molded in white plastic.

The chassis is a beautifully designed unit that includes two separate coil springs for the rear axle, two piece rear differential with control arms, anti-sway bar, drive shaft, shock absorbers, exhaust pipe, frame mounted spare tire, tie rods, upper and lower A-Arm style front axle with torsion bar suspension, 2-piece exhaust pipe with muffler, frame mounted spare tire, and steering box. Four piece wheels consisting of hubcap, tire, wheel retainer and wheel back keep this truck on the road.

Although the AMT 1960 Chevrolet Custom Fleetside model kit can be built in only one variation, the factory stock pickup truck, it is still an awesome kit and you could use the Service Truck parts from the AMT Trophy Series 1953 Ford Pickup Truck to give you a sister truck for this year. I refer to the welding tanks and torch, tools, large mirrors, marker lights and service decals.

The factory stock body comes with authentic bumpers, chrome grill with quad headlights with separate lenses like the real truck, two piece hood, optional hood hinges to display your hood open, a rear tailgate and box end covers, chrome hood vents, chrome Chevy bow-tie logo, gas filler cap, transparent red tail lamps, chrome side mirror, and licence plate frames. The grill is correct for a 1960 truck.

The cab has a separate roof top and cab lower back panel due to the fact that the steel mold can't make all these complex curves and get the model out. Under the hood, you get a firewall, radiator support, radiator, upper cross brace, horn, battery, heater box, heater hoses, and upper and lower radiator hoses. Windshield and rear glass are also included. The rear window on the cab could be opened up and the glass replaces with some clear plastic from Plastruct.

The interior consists of a floor panel with a gas pedal and rubber mat molded in place, has a same folding front bench seat, dashboard with brake and clutch pedals and separate twin "eyebrows", steering wheel, steering column, floor pan, floor pedals, rear view mirror and separate door panels.

The kit’s decal sheet has been revamped from the 1998 version with all new logos that fit the Go-Cart theme and the go-cart itself. New licence plates include a 1956 California "GOKRTS", 1960 Michigan 6467-CE and a factory style "1960" plate.

Speaking of the Go-Cart, this one is a great representation of what was available back from 1957-1965. The Go-Cart instructions are separate from the truck instructions and reminds me of the old Parts Packs from the same era. The Go-Cart consists of mostly chrome parts and is built from a tube frame unit, 3-piece wheels, front and rear nerf bars, steering column, steering wheel, seat and seat belts, fuel tank, helmet, and a 7-piece engine.

The instruction sheet features authentic color paint charts and names for 9 different color variations. It shows options for two-tone paint accent combinations, which match with those that are easily found through pictures and online research. This is an amazing resource for those of us that want to "Get it right".
