The Giant Petrel, which includes two species – the Southern Giant Petrel (Macronectes giganteus) and the Northern Giant Petrel (Macronectes halli), is a large seabird found in the Southern Ocean and the sub-Antarctic regions. While these birds play essential roles in their ecosystems, some aspects could be considered the "dark side" of their behaviour. New studies on Prince Edward and Marion Islands have recently recorded Giant Petrels Snatching Wandering Albatross chicks off their nests. This is a concerning situation that they are monitoring at the moment.
