Speaking about Contemporary Art tends to exclude Indigenous/Native Artists in America. Often Native Artists are outliers, and their work is not seen as work about or within the context of current times (contemporary). So, when this work approaches the contemporary art world it breaks barriers and disrupts the norm, in turn Indigenizing the Contemporary Art structure. This lecture will explore this path and approaches of many current Indigenous Artists as well as the many concepts that tie the people back to the land we call our homelands, our sacred lands.
