Please join us in congratulating our latest DAISY Award Winner, Erica Thompson, RN. Erica works in the Critical Care Unit and was nominated for the prestigious DAISY Award by a patient's family member who was powerfully impacted by the care received from Erica. The patient wrote the following:
"Erica walked with my dad and family through his final days. She did so with a compassion that was not expected. At the worst of times, her attitude carried us all. She was gentle with my dad when it was needed, and she was stern when he needed a strong voice. Her bedside manner was perfect in more ways than I can describe. Erica advocated for our family by working to make sure dad's wishes were met and that all family members were able to spend time with him in his final days. She was clear and forthcoming about his life situation and prepared us for what the journey would entail. We are all convinced Erica is a special angel sent exclusively for us in those trying times. We have been through this before, but I never realized how a kind, loving, compassionate nurse can have such an impact on the family and patient. Erica showed us a side of nursing that we didn’t know existed. There are no words to properly express my gratitude to her in these hard times.”
It is because of Erica’s compassionate and caring efforts that her patient experienced a level of care that exemplifies the impact nurses have in creating an environment where patients and families feel at home. Congratulations, Erica Thompson!
