We’re sharing something truly special: a film full of memories from the old Eastgate Market.

The film was originally made by Bob Fitch, along with Gerald Colley from the tea stall and Mr. Cromwell from the fish and chip shop on Cromwell Street. All three were proud members of the Gloucester Cine Club, and together they captured the heart of our market on film.

After Bob passed away, Philip Langley took care of the footage. He later gave it to Shane, who kindly had DVDs made so more people could see it. Now it’s on YouTube and our Facebook page, ready for everyone to watch, remember and smile.

The Eastgate Indoor Market we know today opened on 31 October 1968. Since then, it has been a vibrant home for local traders and a place where the community comes together.

In 1973, the market became part of the new Eastgate Shopping Centre. The grand entrance officially opened on 3 July that year, marking an exciting new chapter for Gloucester where the spirit of a traditional market met the energy of modern retail.

Eastgate Indoor Market has always been more than just a place to shop. It’s a place full of life, laughter, stories and generations of memories.
