This started out as what I thought would be a full breakfast video where I would make assorted breakfast foods. Ultimately, I went with just the French Toast. But if it goes well there may be more "breakfasty" types after.

This way of cooking them takes the extra step of toasting the bread in the oven before frying them in a skillet. It really adds to the aroma and flavor. If you're short on time you can add the cinnamon and sugar later instead but it doesn't, literally, "bake in" the flavor as much.

(Serves 2, 2 slices each, only one serving is made in the video)
Ingredients
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
4 thick slices of bread (I used challah because I feel it soaks nicely, but you can use almost any bread you like)
2 Tablespoons melted butter
1 Tablespoons un-melted butter
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups milk (I used skim milk because that's what I had around but whole milk would add even more richness)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Recipe
Mix the sugar and cinnamon together in a small bowl or cup
Brush the melted butter and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on both sides
Bake in a pre-heated over for 8-10 minutes (look for the edges to brown)

In a mixing bowl beat the eggs with a fork
mix in vanilla
mix in milk while still beating the mixture

Grease a skillet or pan with butter
dip the toasted bread in the egg wash mixture until it has absorbed and the bread is soft but not breaking apart (sometimes tricky if you leave too long)
Fry the toast in the buttered skillet, about 2-3 minutes per side depending on your heat

optional: Sprinkle with powdered sugar (or whipped cream) and maple syrup (I used Vermont maple)
