Luft 9 was held at the Mare Island Shipyard in the San Francisco Bay. Mare Island Shipyard is a historic naval shipyard located in Vallejo, California, USA. It was established in 1854 as the first naval base on the West Coast of the United States. The shipyard played a critical role in the country's defense efforts during World War II, producing ships, submarines, and other naval vessels at an impressive rate.


In addition to its wartime contributions, Mare Island was also responsible for constructing several historic ships, including the USS California and the USS Nevada. The shipyard remained an active naval base until it was decommissioned in 1996.
