The Remembrance of Death | Mufti Abdur-Rahman ibn Yusuf

Shaykh Abdur-Rahman (hafizahullah) begins by mentioning the Qur’anic ayah in which Allah describes those servant of His whom He sends His peace and mercy upon. The ayah mentioned in Surat al-Baqarah, reveals that these servants are those who when a calamity reaches them they say: “To Allah we belong and to Him is our final return”. He goes on to explain how the aspirant should understand that the nature of this world is such that they will experience some turmoil, and that the believers will most certainly be tested in their wealth, health and lives. He then advises that by remembering death and recalling to oneself the bounties that Allah has prepared for the believers in the hereafter, it will assist one in their patience and perseverance during any loss or calamity. Despite being in a state of worldly loss the aspirant will find their heart in a state of tranquility.
