Acute Myocardial Infarction-Cardiogenic Shock in Older Adults

Описание к видео Acute Myocardial Infarction-Cardiogenic Shock in Older Adults

Dr. Saraschandra Vallabhajosyula, a Fellow in Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, offers insights in his article appearing in the September 2020 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceeding regarding how older women with acute myocardial infarction are treated less aggressively than their male counterparts and have overall worse outcomes. He notes that over a 15-year period reviewed in their study, women received less-frequent guideline-directed therapy and had significantly higher mortality rates. He surmises this may be related to heart attack symptoms appearing differently in women than men making diagnosis more difficult and inherent biases may affect the outcomes of these complex patients.
