But if they are younger than that, it is little bit difficult to feed. But if the baby is 26 or 28 week old, then we may not be able to feed directly. So we might have to start slowly small amounts of feeds via a tube we put in orally which reaches the stomach, we give small amounts of feeds to see how the baby tolerates and gradually we build it up over a week or two. Depending on their issues. So gradually once they achieve to certain gestation, like 30 to 32 weeks, we try the palada feeds, the cup with the nozzle in it which can slowly establish, baby can start developing sucking and swallowing slowly and by 34 weeks, we can start breast feeding form the unit itself. So gradually form the NGT to the palada to breastfeeding, depending on their gestation we can introduce them.
