Julie Bailey is a red squirrel conservationist. She works incredibly hard to protect the small populations of red squirrels in the north of England. The work that she carries out is having a massive impact on red squirrel numbers. Without the work that Julie and others do, red squirrels would struggle to survive in the UK due to the invasive grey squirrels which out-compete our native reds.

Julie was once a gymnastics coach. She trained young boys in the North of England, including her son. Sadly in one of her coaching sessions an accident occurred damaging her spine and leaving her unable to walk. After many operations and sheer determination, Julie is now able to walk with a walking stick.

Seeing the red squirrels in her garden motivated her and they turned into her gymnasts. Despite her disability she doesn't stop working to protect red squirrels.

She is an incredible person and her story is an inspiration to us all.
