It’s estimated that approximately three per cent of people in Canada will experience bipolar disorder in their lifetime. Bipolar disorder is an episodic mental health condition with symptoms coming in distinct periods, often lasting weeks or longer.

Natalie Raso, child and adolescent psychiatrist and assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Neurosciences, says bipolar disorder is often misunderstood with many people thinking it means someone is simply moody or that their emotions change quickly from one moment to the next.
