Emirates Steel Arkan Innovation Development of Slab-Casting Methodology

At Emirates Steel, we proudly offer a wide variety of heavy section mill products that serve a broad range of industries around the world. From beams and channels to sheet piles, we have the right solutions to meet your needs.
For years, using Beam Blank as feedstock to roll out into Sheet Piles has been a convenient technical compromise for small production requirements. This was due to the variety of casting formats provided by the available Continuous Casting Machine, designed to produce only Billet and Beam blanks.
To produce Sheet piles from Beam Blanks, you must clear two wings of its H-shaped cross-section in order to achieve the desired "Z" shape. This method is not optimal for large-scale production. It requires multiple rolling passes and puts stress on the steel’s microstructure. Starting with a plain, rectangular shape (a slab format) would make the process much more efficient and straightforward.
Our Sheet Piles production has grown significantly in the years since our plants were erected, proving to be a vital component for so many industries. We strive to provide our customers with the best possible solutions that are both reliable and cost-effective.
As of August 2020, Sheet Piles were one of the most sought-after items in the ES portfolio. Their market value and share kept increasing month-by-month, leading ESA to take a bold step forward in their business venture: the introduction of rectangular Slabs as a semi-product.
As such, we decided to take action and convert the existing Casting Machine into a Slab Caster.
This video tells the story of how we managed to reach our strategic goal with our own expertise, energy, and enthusiasm. It is an inspiring tale of how a diverse group of individuals from various backgrounds and demographics have unified their enthusiasm and commitment and delivered such an innovative project.
