1990 Pistons Obliterate Bulls with Near Perfect Fourth Quarter

March 16, 1990 - There were a lot of playoff implications in this one. The Chicago Bulls entered the evening having won 12 of their last 14 games, with only three losses at Chicago Stadium all season. The Detroit Pistons, meanwhile, were in the midst of a 12-game winning streak of their own. It was a classic unstoppable force vs. unmoveable object situation.

After playing three quarters to a near dead heat, the Pistons flexed their championship muscle in the fourth, shooting nearly 75 percent from the floor while simultaneously holding the Bulls to 3-of-16 shooting, resulting in a 32-11 fourth quarter onslaught and a subsequent 106-81 shellacking.

Six players finished in double-figures (James Edwards - 21, Joe Dumars - 19, Isiah Thomas - 18, Vinnie Johnson - 15, Dennis Rodman - 13, John Salley - 10) for a classic well-balanced Pistons attack.

Michael Jordan, perhaps hindered by an aggrivated sore thumb, finished with 20 points, the fewest points he'd score over the final 50 games of the 1989-90 season. His highlights can be seen here:    • Michael Jordan (1990): 20 Points vs. ...

As an aside, this was also the game featuring Joe Dumars' GOAT pass nominee:    • Joe Dumars with the GOAT Pass Nominee
