Often described as the ‘Jewel of the Nature Coast,’ Crystal River offers a small-town charm, a wealth of ecological attractions, delicious seafood dining options and water activities as well as unique experiences!
Visitflorida.com states Crystal River is the only place in North America where you can legally swim with manatees in their natural habitat which include rivers, bays and other coastal areas.

In this video, we are sharing our Top Must Do’s in Crystal River. Located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, about an hour north of Tampa International Airport and an hour and 45 minutes west of Orlando, this quaint town is the perfect weekend getaway spot or a fantastic day trip.

1. Three Sisters Springs. Within the 57-acre wildlife refuge is a boardwalk, a pavilion and various nature trails. There is NO water access to Three Sisters Springs from where the shuttle drops you off and there’s no land access from the water which means if you wanted to swim here, you would need to paddleboard, swim IN or kayak from another location. Pedestrians and cyclists can access the springs and refuge’s trail system at the main gate of 3 sisters springs.

2. Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center- here you will find various exhibits and learn everything there is to know about manatees. The visitor center is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4pm and closed on weekends.

3. Hunter Springs Park- If you want to swim in a springs, this is the place. There is a roped off swimming area, perfect for families. They also have a playground area. Several picnic tables with bbq grills are available but get there early to secure your spot. Featuring a white sandy beach on Hunter Spring, the Park also has a boardwalk. Launch your personal kayak or paddleboard here for a fee. Additionally, the park requires a parking fee to be paid at one of two pay stations. Free lots are available in close proximity.

4. Crystal River’s Main Street/Citrus Avenue- local restaurants, stores, Coastal Heritage Museum inside the old City Hall, and the Crystal River Town Square. Murals by local artist: William Mickey.

5. Heritage Village- unique gifts and specialty shoppes. One of the most charming shops is The Heritage House built in the 1800’s. Another hot spot in Heritage Village is Cattle Dog Coffee roasters for coffee lovers. They also offer bagels, sandwiches, and delicious pastry items like cinnamon rolls and muffins.
