We visit two popular floating markets in Thailand. Tha Kha Floating Market is a more traditional market with emphasis on the boats loaded with produce pulling up alongside the shoppers on the landings.
It also has many stalls positioned closely around the klong and a few contemporary shops. There are boat cruises on offer that will take you on a 30 minute fascinating trip through the coconut plantation. We took this trip on an earlier visit and it will shortly be available to view in another video.
We arrived about 8am to avoid the crowds and called in at a new coffee shop while at the market before continuing on to Damnoen Saduak Market.

Damnoen Saduak is somewhat more commercially orientated and more crowded, as it is promoted more widely on the tours for visitors to Thailand.
Despite this we had lots of fun on our visit as the video shows. There are a number of activities to participate in, such as the making of palm sugar cakes and sampling a wide variety of produce, before returning back by boat the starting point.

The markets are about one and a half hours from Bangkok by car or bus and visits here can be included in a tour. Hiring a car and driver through your homestay or hotel is the best option, as that will allow a more relaxed day and the freedom to take the boat cruises on offer and participate in some of the fun activities available.
If your time allows, I would highly recommend travelling to Amphawa and its weekend floating market, and spending a couple of nights in one of the many homestays. From here there are many places to visit, including being in close proximity to the markets as shown in the video.
