Starting continental cattle off on the right foot.

Michael Cleary on a farm in Kildare to set up a diet for finishing continental bullocks. These cattle have come in from grass with the aim of finishing the cattle indoors within 80 days.

The diet consists of;
Grass silage (30% DM 76DMD)
Creidextra
Barley straw
50% barley/maize meal mixture
Mazzolini SN special booster
Mazzolini Ruminase
Limestone flour

Finishing cattle indoors over a short period of time needs to be focused on maximising their eating capacity while maintaining intakes, allowing the rumen produce the correct volatile fatty acids needed to convert feed into carcass weight with good fats scores.
