What does it look like to be in compliance at your home care company?

In this video, I talk about 3 intersecting circles of compliance that are needed in an operating home care company.

First, is compliance with state regulations. Each state has specific license regulations for operating a home care company. Your home care company needs to have a set of Policies & Procedures that address these state regulations. Examples of these are policies to handle Client Complaints, admission criteria and paperwork for new clients, Emergency Management Plans, etc. These are the policies and tools evaluated by the Department of Health to ensure you are in compliance with your issued license.

These P&Ps are what we provide. Every state has different policies that are based on the state specific regulations. Having an organized and accessible set of P&Ps will make operation and compliance much easier.

Second, are HR Compliance documents. There are numerous federal and state laws related to employees, labor, injuries, leave, etc. These include programs like FMLA, EEOC, Work Comp and many more. Each state has specific laws that every employer needs to be aware of. Did you know you need to be keeping an OSHA 300 Log for employee injuries?

Third are documents for Caregiver training and from Franchisors. There are some great online training providers out there. They are a resource for having training courses that cover topics like infection control, first aid, personal care, dementia care, etc. Also, if you are part of a franchise system, your franchisor has specific manuals and documents that guide your franchise. They could be specific scope of services you can provide, a customized caregiver recruitment and retention program, etc.

It is critical to know there are different areas of compliance for a home care company.
