4c) Equipment
Best: Vision express - Longform rooms with working, modern equipment with generally not slow PCs OR some specsavers (shortform modern rooms with nidek phoropters)
Great: Modern independents - similar to VE
Good: Boots - longform rooms with topcon slit lamps and phoropters are common and white-label companies (in a similar setup).
Average: Specsavers, Asda and big independents
Bad: small independents and any store that is rural

5) Support systems
Best: Specsavers - Plenty of knowledgable staff per optom, fast pre-test sometimes being sent into system for you and other optoms to discuss cases with
Great: Independents (especially with +1 optom) - Same as above but maybe no pre-test however if equipment if good, balances this out.
Good: Asda & white label companies - due to being quieter but also having pre-tests, staff maybe not as knowledgeable.
OK: Boots - Has a pre-test: takes ages. Has knowledgeable staff but systems are the worst in the industry and not always working with other OOs.
Bad: Vision express - Chronically under-staffed, You are over-pressurised to sell and staff are not knowledgeable about referrals etc.

6) Differences generally with different areas

6a) Rural areas/channel isles pay the most (sometimes over £500 a day!) but will be the hardest to work in for 3 reasons:
Patients are older, but hospitals are backlogged, expect lots of cataracts, difficulty hearing or understanding and slow movers
Equipment and facilities are very old and not great, lack of cashflow creates stagnant stores
Travel links are tough, so it takes a long time to get there, I personally would always stay overnight as they often pay

6b) Towns are generally the most relaxed or 'normal' work environment and pay averagely
Not as money-driven as cities, but not as under-developed as rural areas
Patients will be a mix of ages and demographics, hospitals are not super fast but not backlogged as badly as rural areas
Travel links are normal, but due to it being a town it will be faster to get in/out of as less people commute daily to it

6c) Cities are the most pressure, but there are some hidden gems for chill days and higher pay but you must find it.
Very salesy but modern stores to allow you to be efficient
Patients are typically younger and hospitals are close/willing to accept referrals
Travel links are good, but can get jammed during rush hour (aka when you need to travel!)
