Abstract: The automotive industry has gone through several major transformations over the past century. Most recently, Tesla has spearheaded a surprisingly comprehensive change of the business model, from the shift to electric and software-first to a new sales approach to intense vertical integration. This presentation discusses how industry transformations such as the one at hand can cause incumbents to be displaced and observes that, historically, the pace at which this occurs is accelerating.

Bio: Christian Vogt is a German-American strategy, innovation, and transformation professional. He is the founder of Premainstream, a boutique consulting firm in Silicon Valley, and previously worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and in operational roles at Cisco, Stihl, and Ericsson. Christian has supported companies of various kinds in building organizational competencies, in interdisciplinary stakeholder management, and in inspiring and leading change. His experience includes projects for global Fortune 50 corporations, medium-sized businesses, and startups in a wide variety of industries in the United States and Europe. Christian’s educational background combines a doctorate in engineering (Dr.-Ing.) from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology with an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.
