We then linked up with Allen and Luis (from Amazon Wonder Expeditions) — absolute legends for navigating this once in a lifetime terrain.

Fueled up at the iconic Yellow Rose of Texas restaurant, where we met Gerald, a Texas expat who's been holding down the fort in Iquitos for over 30 years (yep, you read that right!).

Took a wooden bus to the river port, then headed upstream by boat into the jungle.

Stayed in a remote lodge, visited native villages, and saw firsthand how handmade souvenirs and local crafts support micro-retail economies.

Noticed some uncanny retail similarities — small pharmacies, hardware shops, and even electronics stores — woven between rustic open-air markets and jungle pathways.

This is def what extreme logistics looks like.

Imagine coordinating inventory in a place where roads don’t exist.
