Who is the most hated character in Demon Slayer? Some fans might instantly point to Muzan, the final villain, for all the destruction he caused. Others might say Gyokko, because of his strange and disturbing personality. But when it comes to true dislike from the fanbase, the answer is often Kaigaku. And here’s why.
Kaigaku’s first unforgivable act was betraying his fellows. During his time at the temple, he willingly helped a demon slaughter all the children that Gyomei was protecting so he could stay alive. This not only led to the tragic deaths of those innocent kids but also left Gyomei with unbearable guilt that haunted him for life. Later, Kaigaku made the selfish choice to become a demon himself. This decision devastated his master—who also happened to be Zenitsu’s mentor—so deeply that he ended up taking his own life.
Even after all of this, Kaigaku showed no remorse. He carried himself with arrogance, constantly looking down on Zenitsu despite not being much stronger. He never once showed gratitude to the master who raised him like family. His betrayal, selfishness, and complete lack of respect made him stand out not just as an antagonist, but as one of the most despised characters in the entire Demon Slayer series.
