Описание к видео Turn Blurry Scientific Figures into Publication-Ready Images | Canva AI Upscaler | Lecture 185

🎓 Blurred Figures? Fix Them with Canva AI Upscaler!
In this lecture, you’ll learn how to improve low-resolution scientific figures using Canva AI Image Upscaler—so your images look clear, sharp, and publication-ready for thesis, research papers, posters, and presentations.
We’ll cover the full workflow: choosing the right figure type, upscaling safely, reducing blur, improving readability of labels, exporting in correct formats, and quality-checking to avoid common mistakes (like distorted text or misleading enhancement).

✅ Best for: thesis figures, journal submissions, conference posters, microscopy/gel images (with care), graphs, and diagrams.
⚠️ Important: Upscaling improves clarity but does not create new scientific evidence—always keep original data and report any processing when required!
Step-by-Step Guide: Canva AI Upscaler for Scientific Figure Improvement
Step 1: Prepare the Original Figure

Use the highest quality file you have (original export, not a screenshot).

If it’s a graph or schematic, try to get SVG/PDF from the source first (best quality).

If only a raster image is available, use PNG (preferred) instead of JPG.

Step 2: Open Canva and Set Correct Canvas Size

Open Canva → create a design (or open your existing figure/poster).

Set dimensions close to your target use:

Posters: large size (e.g., A0/A1 equivalents)

Thesis/paper: figure width typically ~1200–2400 px (depends on journal)

Keep background white for most scientific figures unless your template requires otherwise.

Step 3: Upload Your Figure

Click Uploads → Upload files

Upload the figure image and place it on the canvas.

Step 4: Use Canva Image Upscaler

Click the image on the canvas.

Choose Edit photo (or Edit image).

Find Upscale / Image Upscaler (AI) (naming may vary).

Select upscale level (examples):

2× for minor improvements

4× when you need higher resolution (use carefully)

Apply and wait for processing to finish.

Step 5: Fix Text & Labels (Important!)

Upscaling can distort small fonts. For publication-quality figures:

If labels became fuzzy, re-add text in Canva:

Use clean fonts (Arial/Helvetica-like)

Increase font size slightly for readability

If axis labels/legends look weak, consider importing the graph again from the source with larger font.

Step 6: Improve Readability (Optional Enhancements)

Depending on your figure type:

Diagrams / schematics: slightly increase contrast and sharpness (don’t overdo).

Microscopy/gel images: avoid aggressive edits that may alter interpretation.

Screenshots of plots: better to re-export from the plotting software rather than “repair” heavily.

Step 7: Quality Check (Before Export)

Zoom in at 200%–400% and check:

Are numbers and symbols readable?

Any halos/over-sharpening around text?

Any warped letters or lines?

Does the figure still represent the original data accurately?

Step 8: Export Correctly (Best Settings)

Click Share → Download

Choose:

PNG (best for figures, charts, diagrams)

PDF Print (best for thesis/paper compilation, if allowed)
