A road mishap in Assam’s Sivasagar district on the evening of July 14 claimed the life of one person and left another seriously injured. The incident took place when the victim was returning home after attending a program at the Sivasagar Yuva Dal auditorium but was hit by a speeding scooter from behind. The deceased has been identified as 61-year-old Ratan Saikia, a prominent social worker and retired official of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation.

The driver of the scooter, 23-year-old Sagar Debnath, also suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the Assam Medical College & Hospital in critical condition.
