Welcome back to Sun and Friends! On this episode, actor, philanthropist, and bourbon connoisseur Ian Somerhalder returns with a Sun Outdoors exclusive tour of his Airstream™ trailer. With his passion for nature and the outdoors, Ian loves traveling, working, and chilling with his family in the Airstream™. Let’s take a look inside.
He greets us at the door dressed stylishly in a leather jacket and button-down shirt. He pours a finger of whiskey into a glass and makes us feel right at home. The whiskey happens to be from his brand, Brother’s Bond Bourbon, that he owns with his Vampire Diaries co-star Paul Wesley.
Our tour begins in the living area, which is furnished in warm desert hues like dusty rose, tan, and muted orange. The table where he often works and eats meals is decorated with an Aztec print placemat, a candle, and a miniature pine tree. The cabin’s Southwestern décor gives the room an earthy feel, lined with tasteful leather seating and a map of Gallatin National Forest in Montana.
Ian leads us to the kitchen, where his appreciation for the natural world is apparent. The handcrafted hardwood cabinetry is one of the first things you’ll notice in the kitchen. There are also stainless-steel appliances that include gas stove with three burners, oven, and convection microwave. A bowl of vibrant, fresh produce sits on the kitchen counter, with ripe tomatoes and stalks of kale. The spacious refrigerator is stocked with vegetables, fruit, and juices.
Towards the back of the Airstream™ is a full closet with clothes and diapers—because “Every office needs diapers,” according to Ian. He shows off an adorably tiny shirt belonging to his daughter that reads “Eat, sleep, beach, repeat.” Next to the closet, Ian steps into the large shower, joking, “It could also be a phone booth!”
Finally, we move to the beautiful back bedroom, with expansive windows that let in lots of natural light. There is a sizable bed with plenty of room for Ian, his family, and their dogs to pile in. It’s also equipped with USB charging ports and reading lights for when they want to cozy up with a good book before bedtime. He explains that under the bed is a storage space, along with four batteries that provide 400-amp hours. “I could be in the desert for days, just chilling, working, and hanging with the family.”
