Growing Rice in Fishpond? Yes, We Did!

Описание к видео Growing Rice in Fishpond? Yes, We Did!

A college student succeeded in growing rice on the surface of a fishpond in the Tongliang District of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.

Li Meng is a student of aquaculture. After finding fish in a pond often suffocated for lack of oxygen, he tried to use plastic plates to grow rice and let them float on the water surface.

In this way, he no longer needed to inject oxygen into the pond round the clock and the rice is growing well without the use of fertilizers.

Using his method, Li said, locals could harvest 50 kilograms of rice per mu (around 0.067 hectare) each year while maintaining a good environment for the fish.

Local officials are helping him spread his experience to local farmers and fishermen.
