If you were in a mental health crisis and called for emergency services, who would you want coming to your aid? Right now in the US, local police have shouldered the burden of this kind of crisis response. But...should they? If we agree that our current system is not functioning as intended, then how can we change how mental health calls are dealt with? As a trained mental health professional, I’ll answer these questions and explore how we can develop more robust public health interventions through training, reform, or even full replacement of law enforcement.
