Syed Mahboob Maqbool KhuarAzmi Altafi (r.a)
Sheikpura is a small village colonized by the great saint known as Syed Mahboob Maqbool (ra). He was the son of Syed Abdul Khabeer (r.a),who was born in 1251 Hijri in small village of Babagund near Pattan , district Baramullah. His fore father had come to Kashmir along with Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamadani (r.a) to give religious awareness to the muslims of Kashmir. They were placed at different places and got settled at their respective places.
Syed Mahboob Maqbool (r.a) lost his father in his childhood . He was then brought up by his maternal uncle at his native village Chichilora which is situated in the neighborhood of Magam. Here he was educated and given the religious knowledge. He went through many persian books like Gulistan, Bostan, Panj Gunj Nizami and Bidaya Manzoom. He got deeply absorbed in spiritualism and went in search of a guide. He met Ahmad Sahib Tarbali (r.a) and then he met Ahmad Sahib Kanihami (r.a). They were the great spiritual saints of their times, who gave him spiritual guidance. Under the guidance of these great saints Hazrat Mahboob Maqbool Altafi (r.a) was sent to different remote places and caves to perform meditation. Finally he was asked to get permanently settled at a remote isolated place. This place was called Shahpura which changed into Sheikhpura in due course of time. He breathed his last breath in this very village on 21st Safar ul Muzaffar 1341 Hijri and was laid to rest near Masjid Sharief. A grand tomb was built on his grave by his followers. This day of 21st Safar is celebrated every year in his honour. General people and particularly his followers from far flung areas come to pay homage and respects to this great saint on this day of 21st Safar.
