The longest expedition of the submarine "Euronaut" so far took place in June 2019 off coast of the Danish island Møn. The crew trained the shallow water manoeuvrability and bottoming of the vehicle including diver lock-in/lock-out procedures.
"Euronaut" is a private project of a research and diver support submarine. It has been designed by the German naval architect Carsten Standfuss between 1988 and 2000. Then it took his team of enthusiasts another 12 years to build it on holidays, weekends and after work. Most systems on board are second hand and homebuilt and the project is completely self-funded.
The sub has overall length of 16 m (52 ft), surface displacement of 57 tons and is capable of diving up to 250 m (820 ft).
Transit speed is up to 6 knots with a 190 hp diesel engine. Electric drive measures 40 kW.
The life support system provides air for the crew of six persons for a week. The diving chamber allows saturation dives to the depths similar to the operational depth of the submarine.
