Back on the horse!

I stepped away from the project in September with the best of intentions — To take a less hectic pace than once a day, but still get the last few songs out without too much time in between. It’s now nearly year’s end, and I’m stoked to get the gears cranking by sharing one that has been in the works since June.

“St. Stephen” was always going to be a joy of a rocker to play, but it has been that and then some, thanks to the help of some stellar folks collaborating with me on it. Joining for the first time are Brooks Smith on Hammond B3, and Eric Casalini singing. I met Brooks—remotely! (and hope there’s an in-person meeting some time to come!)—through Stuart, and am so grateful to have his phenomenal organ playing on this track. He’s like buttah.

My brother, Eric Casalini, also sounds so good on this track. Eric recorded the verses during a brief stay at our parents’ place in Maryland, (that’s our Nana, Sofia Casalini, in the photo,) and picked up the bridge part back somewhere in southern California, where he lives and works.

As always, Brian and Stuart’s playing is killer; thank you, my friends.

Ah, summer. Back when you were just psyched not to be washing groceries; we ran around barefoot and sported joke election swag. Odd how time keeps marching on. I’ll try and get the other nine or so tunes out as quickly as I can at this point, but promising them all in 2020 seems… optimistic. Next up: Maybe a “Dark Star?” We’ve got a few tracks already laid down for these last few; I just need to remember How Do I Work This???
