Social mobility is the movement of individuals, families, or other social units between social strata in society. Intergenerational mobility is social mobility between generations. For example, children or grandchildren may move to a higher social class than their parents or grandparents. As a result, one generation is in a higher socioeconomic class than another. Intragenerational mobility looks at social mobility within the same generation. For example, a child may be born in poverty, but end up becoming the CEO of a large company
