The most common mistake you make as a golfer as nothing to do with your swing. And it stares you in the face 18 times each round.

Allow John Hughes, PGA Master professional of Instruction and Golf Tips Magazine Top 25 Instructor, to show you your biggest mistake is not your swing. It's how you set up and aim from each tee box.

Trust me when I tell you that tee markers are not purposely placed in the wrong directions by each golf course's maintenance staff. The tee markers are moved to prevent the tee box area from wearing out. And are moved without using a T-square and in as little time as possible. Unless there is a big event at a golf course that requires tee markers be placed in a certain position and direction as required by the tournament staff.

In most cases, the maintenance staff is just moving the tee markers forward or backward and what looks to be in line with how the tee box is mowed. This often leads to the tee markers pointing in a direction that is not in the direction the hole is taking.

As John arrived at Falcon's Fire Golf Club's 18th tee box the day this video was shot, the tee markers were in the exact position from which he created his T-square, using a rope and an alignment stick. The resulting alignment of the tee markers was the tee markers pointing a golfer to the far right of the fairway. Almost dead into the trees just 65-yards in front of the tee box.
